Welcome to the Gower Guitar festival 2004
This was the first year for the festival and it was a daylong celebration of guitar. And wow!!!! what a response, over 550 people during the day and 300 during the evening. EVERYONE had a great time!!! We were aiming to demonstrate how versatile and beautiful the Guitar can be by having guitarists of all different musical styles perform, from classical to rock. Professional and non-professional performers participated in the day and brought to you a day packed with superb guitar music in the relaxed, family friendly setting of the Gower Heritage Centre. And of course, not forgetting the main aim of the festival was to have FUN!! (Kev, the MC sorted that out, along with Jo and Becki on sound) The
final line up, included performances from Zoe McCulloch, Johnny Dickinson,
Gypsy Jazz, Matt Cook, Peski, Peter Kirkbride, The Insiders and of course
not forgetting the other talented Guitarists; Michael Platt; Chris Williams;
Russell Lloyd; Chris Fry; Sylvia Barker; Bill Thompson; Catherine Lewis;
Sue Mann; State of Emergency; Ende; The Nobbs. Classical
Guitarist, John Mills was unfortunately unwell and was unable to perform
so Ray Burley gave a superb performance in the Chapel with less than
a days notice traveling all the way from Oxford. (I
hope I haven't missed anyone out!!! Email me, Cathy). Raz,
The luthier, was overwhelmed. His guitar making workshops were extremely
popular; the sponsors guitar shop, Spider
Music was also popular with evidence that the main aim of the festival
(encouraging people to play) had happened (he sold several guitars to
beginners!!!); And if you didn't’t play guitar, you were able
to pick up some basic guitar techniques with Terry Thomas, who by popular
demand had to do 3 workshops!!! So come along and join us again on the 6th of August 2005!!!
